EF Polymer Unveils Fully Biodegradable Thickeners for Cosmetics and Personal Care Products

Introducing a High-Performance, Sustainable Material that Cares for Skin and the Environment

Okinawa, Japan – EF Polymer, a leader in sustainable superabsorbent polymers, today announced the expansion of its proprietary, fully biodegradable polymers into the cosmetics industry. Known for its 100% organic solutions, EF Polymer is set to bring its eco-friendly innovation to cosmetic formulations, addressing the growing demand for sustainable beauty products.

Background

Superabsorbent polymers have been widely used as thickeners in cosmetics and household products since the 1980s. Traditionally, most of these polymers are derived from petroleum-based raw materials, favored for their low cost and ease of use in production. While these materials provide desirable texture and consistency, they come with significant drawbacks: many are non-biodegradable, contribute to soil and marine pollution, and may irritate sensitive skin. In response to growing environmental concerns and regulatory bans, particularly within the European Union (EU), the cosmetics industry is seeking innovative, sustainable alternatives to these petroleum-based polymers.

EF Polymer's Cosmetic-Grade Solution

EF Polymer is now offering a cosmetic-grade version of its biodegradable polymer, designed for use in products like liquid foundations and lipsticks. This innovative material not only delivers high performance as a thickening agent but is also gentle on the skin and eco-friendly, providing an ideal alternative for sustainable cosmetic formulations.

Key Features

  • Completely Biodegradable: Made from orange and banana peels, EF Polymer is fully decomposed by microorganisms within one year, leaving no trace of microplastics or pollutants in soil or water.
  • 100% Organic: Crafted from organic materials without the use of synthetic chemicals, it is safe for sensitive skin.
  • Effective Thickener: Offers the high thickening properties required in cosmetics, providing a smooth, soft feel that blends seamlessly with the skin.
  • High Dispersibility: Easily disperses in water, making it ideal for fast and efficient integration into cosmetic products during development.

EF Polymer has already initiated joint development projects with leading cosmetics and materials manufacturers, working towards the launch of products incorporating its biodegradable polymers. As we move forward, we will continue partnering with innovative companies to promote and expand the use of eco-friendly cosmetics that prioritize both human skin health and environmental sustainability.

Narayan Gurjar, Founder and CEO of EF Polymer, stated, "Our entry into the cosmetics industry showcases the versatility and potential of our fully biodegradable, 100% organic polymers. By collaborating with industry leaders, we aim to address long-standing environmental and industrial challenges. While we remain committed to our core agricultural business, we are excited to expand our technology into cosmetics and other sectors, contributing to a sustainable society that benefits both people and the planet."

Upcoming Series B Financing Round

EF Polymer is preparing to launch its Series B funding round next spring to accelerate R&D efforts and expand its global market presence. The company seeks strategic investment to support its international growth, with a particular focus on expanding operations in the U.S., a key development region. EF Polymer is actively searching for an overseas investment partner to help drive its mission of scaling sustainable solutions across industries.
