EF Polymer Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kunigami-gun, Okinawa; Founder and CEO: Narayan Lal Gharjar; hereinafter “EF Polymer”), which develops 100% organic superabsorbent polymers, has developed a new water-absorbing sheet “EF Polymer Sheet” in collaboration with Soken Chemical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Koji Tomita; hereinafter “Soken Chemical”), which handles adhesives and functional polymer products. This product is expected to be used in a wide range of fields, including agriculture, beauty, and medicine.
Development background and product features
Conventional absorbent sheets are used in various fields such as cosmetics, medicine, and packaging, but most of them use petroleum-derived raw materials, and microplastic issues and environmental impact during disposal have become issues.
“EF Polymer Sheet,” which was created through joint development, is an environmentally friendly next-generation water-absorbing sheet that combines EF Polymer's 100% naturally derived (biomass) super absorbent polymer with biodegradable nonwoven fabric. Both companies aim to use it in various fields as a sustainable alternative to conventional absorbent sheets because it has high absorbency and is naturally decomposed after use.

Main application scenarios for new products
The fields where EF polymer sheets are expected to be used are as follows.
This product is EF Polymer's third product for applications other than agricultural materials, following ice packs announced in 2023 and cosmetic thickeners announced in 2024. EF Polymer and Soken Chemical will continue to further develop products and cooperate with companies, and aim to enter the market within 2025.
