EF Polymer has now been nominated for the Earthshot (Earthshot) Award, which is widely known around the world as an environmental award. The Japanese company Wota was selected as a finalist in 2021, and when EF Polymer received the Earthshot Award this time, it was the first time for the Japanese team to do so.
The Earthshot Award is an environmental award established in 2020 by Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and the Royal Foundation, and the purpose is to find the best solutions to repair the Earth over the next 10 years through this activity, leading to solutions to environmental problems on a global scale. Past winners and finalists include startup companies aiming for innovation, as well as municipalities, countries, and funds that carry out advanced initiatives. The Earthshot Awards set five goals for restoring the global environment, and they aim to achieve all of these by 2030.
The five goals set by the Earthshot Award are as follows.
EF Polymer has now been nominated as one of the leading candidates by the PDIE Group. In the future, after going through the selection phase, the winners of the Earthshot Award will be announced later this year.
It was established by the then 21-year-old Indian entrepreneur Narayan Gharjal through the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) startup accelerator program in 2019, and is developing environmentally friendly organic polymers that upcycle the residue of inedible parts of vegetables and fruits. Our mission is to upcycle biodegradable waste (garbage) and convert it into low-cost, sustainable agricultural materials that are easy to use even in emerging countries, to solve global environmental problems related to agriculture, such as water shortages.
