We are pleased to announce that EF Polymer, which handles research and development of 100% organic and completely biodegradable super absorbent polymers (SAP), received the highest “Minister of the Environment Startup Award” at the Reiwa 3 Environmental Startup Awards, which was solicited by the Ministry of the Environment to support startups in the environmental field.
The “Environmental Startup Award” is an award established by the Ministry of the Environment in 2020 to revitalize innovation in the environmental field (in particular, climate change countermeasures, resource recycling society, environmental management/safety assurance technology, resilience, sustainability, etc.), to create new role models through awards etc. for promising startups in the future, and to support the expansion of business opportunities. This time, EFP received the “Minister of Environmental Startup Award” as the highest-rated startup company among all the companies that were recruited under strict examination by the Environmental Startup Award Selection Committee composed of experts.
In response to this, it was decided that EFP will participate in the “Green Startup Pitch” to be held on 2022/3/9 (Wednesday), where an award ceremony and pitch will be held, and will be on stage at the public pitch. This event is one of the largest events in Japan where environmental startups gather.
Until now, EFP has developed 100% organic and completely biodegradable super absorbent polymers (SAP) made from garbage such as fruit peels under the mission of “using garbage to solve global environmental problems, including water issues with low-cost sustainable agricultural materials that are easy to use even in emerging countries,” and provided products to over 3,000 farmers, mainly in India and Japan, starting with the water problems faced by farmers We have been working on the business to resolve the various issues we face.
Going forward, in addition to working to solve various issues such as water problems faced by farmers around the world, we will further strengthen the development and dissemination of 100% organic and completely biodegradable SAP hygiene products (diapers, napkins, etc.), which are currently undergoing research, development, and business development.
In order to promote environmental technology innovation and social implementation, it is an award newly established by the Ministry of the Environment for the purpose of accelerating the creation of innovation for the future by commending the business (business technology) of environmental startup companies that contribute to the creation of new innovations through holding the Green Startup Pitch. Environmental startup companies are recruited for a wide range of fields (climate change countermeasures, resource recycling society, conservation of natural environments, environmental management/safety assurance technology, resilience, sustainability, etc.), and the Environmental Startup Minister's Award (1 company) and the Environmental Startup Business Concept Award (1 company) are determined based on examination by experts.

The Ministry of the Environment created a new role model through awards etc. for promising environmental startups, and established the “Environmental Startup Award” (including the Minister of the Environment Award) for the purpose of supporting the expansion of business opportunities. This time, based on the application forms submitted, the winners were determined by an examination by a selection committee composed of external experts. The “Environmental Startup Award Ceremony” will be held to give pitches (short presentations) and awards for the winners.
At this award event, in addition to the grand prize winner's pitch and commendation, keynote speeches on trends related to environmental startups and panel discussions by the selection committee and winners will be held. We look forward to the participation of a wide range of people interested in environmental technology innovation and environmental startups.
